Inside the making of Lock/Load

Go behind the scenes of the Lock/Load recording sessions.

The New Caliber of Sound: Lock/Load.

Lock/Load is an expansive firearm mechanics library built around the detail that makes weapons feel physical: reloads, magazine handling, bolts, dry fires, safeties, slides, and close mechanical movement. With more than 7,000 sounds across roughly 20 GB, it gives you a deep source palette for realistic weapon handling and custom design.

The collection emphasizes variation and perspective rather than a handful of hero sounds. Small clicks, metal movement, handling textures, and complete reload actions can be used directly or layered together to create a weapon with its own weight and personality.

For games, film, television, and trailers, Lock/Load is designed as a practical working library—from subtle close-up foley to larger cinematic firearm sequences.

Awesome Library

Loving the sounds. The only slight difficulty is that most of the recordings have a decent amount of room tail at the end, which means I have to apply lots of transient and decay editing while designing a reload sound.

great sounds but would like a quieter version that wasn't normalised so loud

great sounds but would like a quieter version that wasn't normalised so loud. Most of my library is not so loud so I have to keep juggling the volume when browsing sounds

Hi there! Thank you for your review of 'Lock/Load.' We appreciate your feedback and understand your frustration with the volume of the sounds. We are constantly working to improve our products and will take your suggestion into consideration for future updates. In the meantime, you probably know this , but we suggest to run a quick volume batch on the library so it matches the levels you like!

Fantastic level of detail and realism

All that extra gun movement that you wish Foley could have covered but they were given a 2 day budget and so here we are. Great, useful and detailed gun moves here. All the thunks and clunks you could ever want your guns to make.

Great Library

I recently purchased Lock / Load, and it proved to be a valuable addition to my audio toolkit.Files are well-labeled, logically organized, and easy to browse. Metadata is thorough, which makes searching for the right sound quick and efficient—especially useful for large projects on tight deadlines.

Sound quality is good

Sound quality is good, but naming is terible. At first, when I opened the files in a Windows browser, I thought that the metadata would contain more detailed information (when imported in a Soundly). Almost all the files are named like "mag manipulation" or "bolt manipulation". You can't find the sound you need by searching for "mag in", "mag out" or similar. =( And You need to spend three times more working time to listen to each file and try to guess whether it is "Mag in", "Bolt Action" or even "Assault rifle clip manipulation" =( because all manipulations of one weapon sound almost the same

Nice collection, different from what's out there.

I like the style and grittiness of these, it would be 5 star but some sound like they have little to much room verb in them or have a different mic placement than others

Thanks for your feedback Jesse! We do agree that there is a slight room verb on some of the takes. This was due to being in some of the gun owners locations where their guns were stored, and we didn't have much choice. We did our best to have everything as quiet as we could, but some did sneak in on some files. Hopefully you can remove the bit of reflections you do hear with a noise reduction software like Izotope.

Important install note

Open this file after downloading every part:

For multipart sound libraries

  1. Download every part into the same folder. Wait until every download has finished, and keep the original filenames unchanged.
  2. Open Part 1 only in one of the apps below: the file ending in .7z.001, .zip.001 or .part1.rar (sometimes .part01.rar). For older .rar + .r00 sets, open the .rar file.
  3. The app reads the remaining parts automatically and extracts the complete library. Keep all parts together until extraction finishes; you do not need to open the other parts.

If your library contains separate, complete ZIP archives instead of numbered volumes, extract each ZIP separately. Software installers have their own instructions.

Mac — Keka recommended
Keka is our recommended Mac app for large SoundMorph libraries and can be faster than The Unarchiver. Get the free direct download from Keka’s website, or support its developer with the Mac App Store version ($6.49 USD). Store pricing varies by region and may change. The Unarchiver also works and is free. Extraction speed depends on your Mac and the archive.

Keka users: allow folder or drive access

Keka needs permission to read the folder or drive holding your downloads, especially multipart archives on an external drive. If you have not already granted access:

  1. Open Keka → Settings (or Preferences) → File Access.
  2. Click the + button at the bottom left. Select the folder or drive containing all your downloaded parts, then click Give access to Keka (or Open).
  3. If you are extracting to a different folder or drive, grant access there too. Then open Part 1 only again.

Seeing “Operation not permitted” or “Cannot open the file as archive”? Check Keka’s access first. These messages do not necessarily mean the download is damaged.

Show Keka settings (+ button)
Keka File Access settings. Use the plus button in the bottom-left corner to add the folder or drive containing your downloads.
The arrow points to the + button. Add the folder or drive you are using; the entries shown here are just an example.

Windows — 7-Zip
Use 7-Zip, a free archive extraction app for Windows.

Make sure your drive has enough free space for both the downloaded archive parts and the extracted library.

* We’re developing a SoundMorph downloader and installer app to make downloading and installing your libraries faster and easier. Coming in 2027!
