Texture in motion

Ordinary materials.
Unexpected movement.

Gears, motors and pipes. Paper, gloves and plastic sheets. Metal bowls, garden hose, voices, wind, water and wood. A varied palette of sources gives these pass-bys their tactile, organic character.

Reach for a sound with a recognizable edge, or choose something harder to place. Let the texture suggest the object, then shape it to fit your scene.

Find the right pace

A quick flash. A close encounter. A slow reveal.

Fast

Try sharp movement against an arrow release, projectile flyby or a sudden object crossing the frame.

Medium

Give a passing drone, creature or spacecraft enough time to register its texture and character.

Slow

Experiment with a lingering spirit, a mysterious presence or the passage of something enormous.

Build your own identity

Make the audience feel it pass.

A spacecraft doesn’t need to sound like a motor. A spirit doesn’t need to sound like a voice. Explore unexpected pairings of movement and material to give an unseen or unfamiliar object a sound of its own.

Use a pass-by as the focus of a moment, or layer it with your own impacts, engines and atmospheres. Experiment with pitch, timing and perspective to connect the sound to the action.

I’ve really enjoyed using Unknown Pass By by SoundMorph

I’ve really enjoyed using Unknown Pass By by SoundMorph. What I like most about this library is the atmosphere and the unusual character of the sounds. They have a mysterious and sometimes slightly unsettling quality that works really well for cinematic sound design.

The sounds are very detailed and easy to integrate into my own projects. I’ve found them especially useful for creating tension, adding subtle background movement, and giving scenes a more immersive feeling. They also work well when layered with other sound effects and processed further.

For me, one of the biggest strengths is that the sounds don’t always have an obvious or predictable character. This makes the library fun to experiment with and allows me to use the sounds in ways that go beyond their original purpose.

Overall, Unknown Pass By is a very inspiring collection and one I can see myself coming back to regularly. It’s a great choice if you’re looking for unusual, atmospheric sounds that can add something special to your sound design.

Highly recommended!

Love them

Love them. It is a really unconventional pass by the library, which I am sure we will listen to them in the next movies very soon. Magical, electrical, space ships, comets, stars, new technology... All what I am not thinking about is probably there. Very interesting new king of pass by sound.

Great bases for scene backgrounds and object layers

Really useful for scifi passbys and the like as is, but also very good for other kinds of object design especially as extra layers.
